Position Overview Salary: $70,000 to $110,000 per year (plus benefits) Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Accounting, Engineering, or related discipline Experience Required: 4+ years of related experience plus Master’s degree, or 2 years plus a PhD Description Rincon Consultants is hiring a Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planner based in Ventura, California (or another Rincon office) with hybrid flexibility, paying $70,000 to $110,000 per year plus benefits. Rincon Consultants is a California-based environmental consulting firm with 550+ professionals and more than 30 years of experience serving clients across transportation, energy, water, infrastructure, private development, and government sectors. Through its Sustainability Climate Resilience (SCR+) practice, Rincon partners with clients to develop ambitious, science-driven climate action and adaptation plans and to support real, lasting implementation. Rincon recently earned Great Place To Work® certification. The Climate Resilience Planner supports the SCR+ practice on climate action and adaptation plans, resiliency strategies, climate impact modeling, and vulnerability assessments for cities, counties, and special districts across California. The role focuses on climate adaptation and resilience, assessing existing conditions, modeling future impacts, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing strategies to address hazards including wildfire, extreme heat, drought, sea-level rise, and flooding. Many projects break new ground, requiring comfort with ambiguity and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and design of Climate Action and Adaptation Plans, resiliency strategies, and related documents.
  • Develop and implement strategies to help communities adapt to wildfires, extreme heat, sea-level rise, and drought.
  • Manipulate and apply Climate Hazards Center CHC-CMIP6 to analyze local risks across wildfire, precipitation, and temperature, identifying vulnerable populations and infrastructure.
  • Evaluate sea-level-rise hazards using CoSMoS tools.
  • Conduct research for complex projects including resilience-benefit modeling, implementation costs, GHG reduction, and co-benefits.
  • Integrate climate adaptation and environmental justice policies into local government planning documents.
  • Prepare drafts of technical memoranda, meeting minutes, transmittals, presentations, and other written materials.
  • Apply quantitative and qualitative modeling methods and protocols.
  • Engage diverse communities and stakeholders on complex climate-science topics.
  • Work with Principals and Managers to advance Rincon’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Accounting, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of related experience plus Master’s degree, or 2 years plus a PhD.
  • Experience managing budgets for multifaceted work programs.
  • Data management and analysis experience.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in climate science and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication, planning, budgeting, and organizational skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Comfort with fast-paced and varied work.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to streamline and improve processes.
  • Highly motivated; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, strong time management, and innovative.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in energy, climate, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience completing complex calculations or modeling.

  • Hybrid work setup blending office and remote time; Rincon may prioritize candidates within 50 miles of an office.
  • Eligible office locations: Carlsbad, Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, Oakland, Palm Springs, Riverside, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, San Jose, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.
