Federal Transcriptionist – Remote – Department of Justice Contract

Job Summary Translation Excellence, Inc. is recruiting experienced transcriptionists to support an active federal transcription contract. This is remote independent contractor work producing verbatim English transcripts of federal law enforcement and legal audio recordings. All work is performed through a secure company-managed Azure Government environment, meaning federal audio is never accessed on or downloaded to personal devices. Work volume is substantial and sustained, allowing qualified transcriptionists to claim full-time workload or as much work as fits their individual schedule. Compensation is per page delivered, with higher rates for faster turnaround assignments. Strong performers maintaining high quality scores receive priority access to premium, rush, and same-day assignments at the top of the rate range. Specific per-page rates are discussed during the qualification conversation and are commensurate with experience, clearance status, and quality track record. Duties Produce verbatim English transcripts of federal law enforcement, legal, and interview audio recordings in accordance with established formatting and accuracy standards. Claim transcription assignments through the operations workflow system based on availability, turnaround requirements, and quality score standing. Meet turnaround commitments ranging from same-business-day premium assignments to 14-business-day routine assignments. Maintain a minimum 98 percent accuracy rate on delivered transcripts as measured through the quality assurance review process. Participate in the quality review feedback loop and apply reviewer corrections to ongoing work. Maintain personal credential and qualification records through the transcriptionist self-service portal, including certifications, training documentation, and clearance renewals. Operate within the secure managed virtual desktop environment and comply with all federal contract data handling, confidentiality, and personnel security requirements. Complete a sponsored Public Trust background investigation prior to receiving work assignments and maintain clearance eligibility throughout the engagement. Execute and comply with a non-disclosure agreement and personnel qualification package requirements. Skills US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status, which is a federal contract requirement and cannot be waived. Eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance through a sponsored background investigation, with preference given to candidates already holding an active Public Trust clearance or higher. Two or more years of professional transcription experience with legal, law enforcement, or federal agency transcription experience strongly preferred. Verified typing speed of 70 words per minute or greater with 98 percent or higher accuracy. Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, and verbatim legal transcription formatting standards. Experience with digital audio transcription software, with familiarity with VIQ, Express Scribe, or comparable platforms preferred. Ability to work independently, manage assignment deadlines, and maintain consistent production quality. Strong attention to detail and active listening skills for accurate capture of multi-speaker audio including overlapping dialogue, accented speech, and unclear pronunciation. Technical setup requirements including a personal computer running Windows 10 or later capable of running the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client, a wired USB headset (Bluetooth not supported), a USB foot pedal compatible with standard HID device class with Infinity IN-USB-2 or Olympus RS-31H recommended, and a stable wired Ethernet internet connection with minimum 25 Mbps download speed (WiFi not supported for production work). Willingness to work in a quiet environment suitable for focused transcription work. Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour Work Location: Remote
