About the role: As a Python Engineer, become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow. We are partnering with a leading industrial automation company on a high-stakes, 24-week engineering engagement (15 June – 1 December 2026) to significantly upgrade the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline behind their AI-powered copilot product. Operating under an embedded Co/Labs model based in Poland, our team is tasked with improving retrieval quality, context precision, and grounding frameworks to minimize code generation hallucinations. The core technical milestone is building an AST-aware Code-RAG solution tailored for industrial automation syntax (IEC 61131-3 standard). All deliverables must be developed and transferred directly as raw Python source code into the client’s secure Azure DevOps environment, ensuring absolute data sovereignty and eliminating third-party SaaS dependencies. Responsibilities: Baseline Instrumentation (Phase 1): Instrument the client's existing data and retrieval pipelines to capture and expose baseline performance data for objective KPI scoring Hybrid Retrieval Build (Phase 2): Execute the hands-on code development to merge lexical search algorithms (BM25) with dense vector store mechanics (pgvector) into a single, high-performance hybrid retrieval layer Pipeline Optimization: Implement custom embedding strategies and chunking boundaries to maximize search relevance and minimize context noise for the LLM Core Engineering & Delivery: Write clean, highly performant, and completely covered Python code, delivering all artifacts directly into the client's Azure DevOps repositories Integration Support (Phase 3): Collaborate with the Senior ML Engineer to merge all retrieval components into the unified, production-grade enterprise application pipeline Requirements: Professional Experience: 3+ years of commercial software development or ML engineering experience within production environments Programming Mastery: Strong Python coding capabilities with a track record of building and testing stable data or machine learning pipelines Search & Vectors: Direct, hands-on experience working with vector search mechanisms, embedding models, and lexical retrieval protocols (BM25) Engineering Rigor: Proven familiarity with test-driven development (TDD), automated code linting, and structured pull-request workflows inside Git or Azure DevOps Nice to Have: Practical exposure to search relevance tuning, context re-ranking models, or processing technical/industrial documentation Location Constraint: Must be physically located in Poland or Eastern Europe to maintain alignment with the co-delivery squad structure What`s in it for you?
