Specialist, Environmental, Health & Safety Generalist

About the position Our Plano, TX and Richardson, TX sites are seeking a Specialist, Environmental, Health & Safety Generalist to join our team for our Advanced Effects Sector business. With minimum supervision, the successful candidate will serve as the EH&S Site Lead to develop solutions to assigned technical problems. In this role, the candidate will use their experience to implement and lead strong environmental, health and safety aspects as they relate to manufacture and testing of space electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Works with management, employees, & customers in applying occupational health, facility safety, construction safety, ergonomics, environmental and health disciplines. Activities are performed in accordance with organization & program standards & procedures. Plan and coordinate activities associated with facility and equipment maintenance with internal and supplier resources.
  • Plans, develops, directs, and assesses programs to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, with emphasis on facility safety programs, regulatory compliance, contractor safety program, sustainability, and associated monitoring.
  • Evaluates the impact of emerging issues and regulations on company operations, conducts problem investigation and coordinates resolutions, evaluates engineering design, and performs safety analyses, ensuring appropriate selection of control measures and hazard mitigation.
  • Evaluates existing or emergent risk management control technologies and provides information, regulatory interpretation, and technical expertise to management and employees.
  • Works regularly with regulatory agencies, and other sites and EH&S professionals

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and minimum of four (4) years of experience in environmental, health, and safety programs.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Hazardous waste management experience (current RCRA and DOT training preferred).
  • Experience/knowledge of Environmental regulations (i.e., air, water/stormwater, waste, EPCRA/SARA) including permitting and compliance.
  • Experience with life safety programs (confined space, control of hazardous energy, hot work, working at heights, etc.).
  • Full understanding of OSHA General and Construction safety and health standards is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written & oral), with ability to resolve conflict, work with and as a team, be flexible and adaptable, have above average problem solving and analytical skills, and be proactive.
  • Familiar with root cause analysis, office and industrial ergonomics, industrial hygiene monitoring, SDS reviews and interpretations, and incident investigation methodology.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance upon request.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast paced, ever-changing work environment.
  • The ability and willingness to occasionally work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Radio Frequency (RF) safety experience preferred
  • Must possess mobility to work in a manufacturing environment along with a standard office setting, and able to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Will require frequent walking, climbing, stopping, crouching, and/or bending in a manufacturing environment; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • May require the ability to travel by air (<5% or auto (<75%).
  • Will require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, respiratory protection, hearing protection and others as deemed necessary.
