Territory Mgr Comm Lines Underwriter

This position is for the territory of Southern Indiana (see attached county map). Territory A.docx Position provides direction at the agency level to meet the overall corporate goals and objectives. The individual will manage the assigned territory and work together with underwriting teams to meet written premium, loss ratio and service objectives. Individual will work with assigned underwriting teams to assist in the selection and development of agents in the assigned territory. The Territorial Manger will develop plans to manage the agency force, including new appointments, improvement efforts, and when necessary, terminations. This position will also be responsible for new Commercial Lines risk selection, pricing, and negotiation within a select group of agents within assigned authority levels. Salary Grade (16) 101,08 - 131,405 - 161,730 This position will be assigned a company vehicle. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Produce growth and profit in the assigned territory within corporate guidelines for Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Farm. Train new agents in corporate methods and procedures including claims, accounting, and underwriting. Locate and appoint new agents to support corporate growth goals. Assist in projects as assigned. Secure competitive information regarding rates, products, commissions, etc. Aid on product development. Work with assigned agents for book transfer opportunities. Accept or rejects and assigns proper classifications and pricing new Commercial Lines business with a select group of agents based on underwriting criteria, investigative reports, and loss history within assigned authority levels. Provide instructions for rating, classification, pricing, and endorsements to UA/CSR staff. Travel to agencies to strengthen company/agency relationships, to discuss underwriting issues and for on- and off-site training. Communicate with underwriting and other departmental and company personnel on underwriting issues. Communicate via telephone, fax, electronic and written communication with agency personnel on underwriting issues. Assist agents in developing their Commercial Lines, Personal Lines and Farm knowledge and skills. Work with assigned agents to develop agency marketing programs and co-op advertising. Have a general understanding of all areas of the company including Underwriting, Accounting, Claims, Rate & Product and Technology. Test and train on all company supported web-based programs for agents. Inspect and aid with agents to secure Commercial, Personal and Farm accounts. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Four-year degree in Business, Marketing or insurance or equivalent work experience. Prefer experience in a P&C Marketing position. Minimum 3+ years underwriting experience in Commercial Lines. Prefer underwriting experience in Personal Lines. Effective interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Commercial Lines, Personal Lines and Farm Products. Excellent ability to sell. Demonstrated experience in automation including PC, Agency Management systems, rating software and Company software systems. LANGUAGE SKILLS Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The individual must be able to effectively and clearly communicate with agency, team, departmental and company personnel via telephone, fax, e-mail, one on one dialogue and small group presentations in a highly professional manner. REASONING ABILITY The position requires the individual to apply common sense, understanding, reasoning and sound educated judgment coupled with sound Commercial Lines insurance training and experience to properly evaluate and analyze accounts/problems for recommended action within assigned levels of authority. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS INS or CPCU are encouraged. Additional insurance course work and seminars are recommended.
